Karen Sansom

Karen Sansom N.D.S.F., F.S.F.

I started in Floristry at the age of 17 studying at Harlow college straight from school. I love being part of a team and throwing ideas of each other, which is what Loreto house was like last year. It felt just like a little family. I am happy to give my time for free for charity and its just a joy being let loose in the house with such great flowers and surroundings!! I enjoy all areas of floristry, but I have a passion for small intricate work. I lean towards more modern styles, but traditional can be just as enjoyable if the surroundings suit. I aspire to Europa Cup finalist and my good friend Neil Whittaker, Per Benjamin (who was one of my teachers in Finland), Yohan Huisman and Moniek Vanden Berghe. I hope you enjoy Loreto house as much as I have enjoyed being involved once again and a huge thank you to the team at the house who make it all worth while.

My involvement with the floristry industry began in 1968 when I took a job with a renowned local florist as their “Saturday” girl. This gave me an excellent grounding for what was later to become my career.
Over twenty years ago, I became involved with helping to make the nosegays for the Royal Maundy Service at Southwell Minster. Six years ago, I was appointed Nosegay Maker to Her Majesty The Queen and on 1st January 2008, granted a Royal Warrant as a supplier to H.M. The Queen. I am now in the position of being a member of The Royal Warrant Holders Association. This is a position that you do not even consider when commencing life in the floral industry.
